How To Re-Oil Your Soap Dish

Following these steps will keep your wood board well-maintained, enhancing its appearance and prolonging its life.

  1. Clean the Surface: Begin by cleaning the wood board thoroughly. Use warm soapy water and a soft cloth to remove any food residues or stains. Rinse well and dry completely.
  2. Prepare the Oil: Pour a small amount of food-safe mineral oil or butcher block oil into a bowl. This will make it easier to apply.
  3. Apply the Oil: Using a clean cloth or paper towel, dip it into the oil and gently rub it onto the surface of the wood board. Apply the oil in the direction of the grain for even coverage.
  4. Let it Soak: Allow the oil to soak into the wood for about 15 to 30 minutes. This allows the wood to absorb the oil effectively.
  5. Wipe Excess Oil: After the oil has soaked, take a clean cloth and wipe away any excess oil from the surface. You want to leave the wood with a nice sheen without a greasy residue.
  6. Curing time: Let the board sit for a few hours or overnight to allow the oil to fully cure. Avoid using the board during this time for optimal results.
